Edison GEM Cylinder Phonographs
The Edison Gem Phonographs were first introduced in 1899.
Eventually Edison produced 5 Models,
A 1899, New A 1901, B 1905, C 1908, Maroon Colour D 1909, E 1911/1912.
Lots of variations & changes during their manufacture
Edison Gem - Key-Wind Model A
This is an Edison GEM Phonograph Model A Key-Wind. Serial No G45510 Estimated date 1902. It has an all metal case, a Model “B” reproducer & is designed to play 2 minute brown wax cylinder records. With an Oak cabinet & base. A 10″ black metal horn.
Edison Black Gem Phonograph-Model B
This Gem is a Model “B” 1905, serial No G196821. Features a non removable winding handle instead of a Key. Plain Edison decal on the Oak Lid. A 14″ Black metal horn with Brass Bell.
Edison Red Gem Phonograph Model D
This is the Edison RED GEM Phonograph Model “D” Serial No 356513. Estimated date 1909. It is fitted with a Model K reproducer for playing 2 minute & 4 minute Cylinder records. Metal body of the Gem is a deep maroon colour & it has an Oak base & Oak domed lid.
Edison Fireside Phonograph
This Fireside Model A has the serial number 69509 estimated date is 1911.
The Edison Fireside Model A, introduced in 1909, A compact design with a 19-inch maroon colour small horn and can play both 2-minute and 4-minute cylinder records. It uses the motor of the Edison Standard and has a Model K reproducer.
